Searching the Phoenix, Arizona, city directories available at Ancestry.com, it was found that E. L. McCormick resided at 4002 East Coolidge from 1958-1960.  The listing was found in the directory of the streets of Phoenix, so no wife was mentioned.  Additionally, the 1957 directory was a partial listing, that did not include the streets.  And, the 1956 directory did not find an address of 4002 East Coolidge.

McCormick and his wife, Kathryn, resided at 749 Nautilus, La Jolla, CA, for the years 1956-1957.  The website did not have any directories that included La Jolla for the year 1955 or after the year 1957.  Additionally, Elvert and Kathryn were not listed in the directory for 1953-54.  Searching the City Directory of La Jolla California (Ancestry.com) for the year 1955, found was Alvert L. McCormick (included wife Kath W).  They were residing at 749 Nautilus.

Searching for 757 High Street, Newark, NJ, using https://www.google.com/maps/, showed that today this location is 757 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd.  It is a vacant lot.  However, when searching for the High Street location in a search engine, I was able to find this photograph:

“American Elm, 757 High Street – 1865;” Shade Tree Commission of the City of Newark, New Jersey 1915; Coppermine Gallery (http://newarkstreets.com/photos/index.php : accessed 3 August 2018).

Quite a nice-looking place!

According to the 1923 City Directory for Newark, NJ, there were four families residing at the address.  The address was most likely an apartment building.

Searching for 2695 Hudson Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ, showed that today this location is 2695 John F. Kennedy Boulevard.  This is an apartment building.  With further research, I was able to find a map from 1928 of Jersey City, NJ.  The name of the apartments located at 2695 Hudson Boulevard was Netherland Apartments.

At Ancestry.com, someone posted the wedding invitation for the wedding of Kathryn Wolter and Elvert L. McCormick.  With permission, I was able to save a copy of the wedding invitation for my own use.  Here is the information contained in the wedding invitation:

  1. Invitation sent to Mrs. Belle Nixon, 611 E. Walnut St., Denisin, Iowa – postmarked 25 November 1925 in Correctionville, Iowa
  2. Kathryn daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wolter
  3. Elvert L. McCormick is the spouse
  4. Wedding is 13 September 1925 in “City of Chicago”
  5. Notation on invitation: At Home after November First Reviera Court, 757 High Street, Newark, N.J.
  6. Additional “paper” included with invitation states: Changed address to Mr. E. L. McCormick, 2695 Hudson Boulevard, Jersey City, N. J.

This invitation gives much information!  Confirmation is given as to Kathryn’s parent’s names.  Date and place of wedding is given.  Their first “home” address is given, plus their next home address is given.

A question raised is:  Who is Mrs. Belle Nixon?

With a little bit of research, I have been able to determine that Mrs. Belle Nixon was Laura B. Nixon.  She resided in Denison, Crawford Co., Iowa, in the 1930 census.  In that census, she was a widow.  From other research I have been able to determine that she was the wife of Franklin Peck Nixon.  Laura, born in 1857 in Spencer, Owen Co., Indiana, was the daughter of Sarah Jane and Peter Varner.

By doing more research, I have determined that the parents of Elvert L. McCormick were Simon Charles McCormick and Bertha A. Elvert.  Bertha Elvert was born to Anna Beyer and Michael Elvert in Russia about 1871.  Anna and her daughter, Bertha, immigrated to the United States and settled in Woof Creek, Woodbury Co., Iowa.  Anna married Peter Varner 12 November 1891 in Ida Grove, Ida Co., Iowa.

Peter Varner, mentioned in the two previous paragraphs, married first Sarah Jane Kemp about 1854 in Indiana.  Then, he married Anna Beyer Elvert in 1891. So, Mrs. Belle Nixon was the step-daughter of Anna Elvert Varner (grandmother of Elvert L. McCormick), and was the step-sister of Bertha A. Elvert McCormick (mother of Elvert L. McCormick).
