Since I have researched much on this Wolter family, and I feel a little confused about what information I have, I think it is time to do a re-start on the research.

Now is known who was Miss Charlotte Wolter, who resided at 2125 S. 40th Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of John and Martha Wolter, immigrants from Germany.  We know that John at one time resided at this address, and it is known where the Wolter family resided for the census years 1900-1940.

Now is known that the mother of Catherine was Martha Bringe.  Maybe this is why Charlotte was listed in the diary.  Could Martha have been a relative of Albert’s?

The death record for Martha says that she died 28 February 1935 in Chicago. She was born 28 August 1865 in Germany, and her father’s name was John Bringe.  The informant was her daughter, Charlotte.  And, the obituary for Martha does not say anything about her maiden name.  I have not yet been able to acquire the death certificate for Martha.

So, where to go from there?

I compared the birth date of Martha with that of Albert Bringe’s father – Christian Friedrick Martin Bringe. He was born 27 November 1834 in Stralsund, Germany.  Martha was born 28 August 1865. Christian Friedrick was married twice – his second wife was the mother of Albert.  His first wife was Maria Dorothea Jochina Samlow/Semlow. There were three children from that marriage – Wilhelmine Luise Friederike born in Grimmen in 1859, John Frederick born in Germany in 1861, and William Charles born in German in 1863.  So, Martha was of the same generation as the first-marriage children of Christian Friedrick.  It could be that Martha’s father, John, was the brother of Christian Friedrick?

What do you think?
