Many of my ancestors that ended up in the Midwest or even further west started out in the east.

Many of my ancestors moved from Virginia to Kentucky. As I have traced the moves, I have discovered that many of them did not “pack one day in Virginia and arrive the next day in Kentucky!” Many of them stopped in other counties in Virginia and Kentucky before arriving at the planned destination. Any of these intermediate stops could have records on my ancestors. Maybe they witnessed a will or maybe they were there at tax time – there are many types of records that may list that ancestor.

So, don’t just look at the beginning and ending of the trip!
