Llewellyn Earl Champion is the great-grandfather of my husband.  He was born in 1874, and died in 1921.  We already knew that Llewellyn had been in the “War with Spain,” mustering into the Ohio Infantry in 1898.

While going through boxes of photos found in my husband’s parents’ house, there was found some papers in amongst the photos.  Some of these papers had to do with Llewellyn.  And, some of these papers were pay slips for Llewellyn from when he was in this Ohio Infantry during the Spanish American War.

It had first been thought that the box was “just another box of photos to go through.”  The discovery made the box much more interesting.  We found many other papers in the same box among the many photos.   It was really worth the time to go through the box!
